Are Your Customers And Clients Excited?

I've just arrived back from a charity bike ride with close to 100 others including support crew. Whilst the ride was challenging, it was refreshing to spend time with business owners and senior managers from Brisbane, Melbourne and as far away as Perth.

As we pushed our bodies over the 266 K trek, the topic of "what's working for you in your business" was met with excitement and enthusiasm. Whilst many agreed times are tough, these business owners and leaders in their respective fields are always looking at what their customer and clients’ ever changing habits are. Often, creating new opportunities for their businesses.

A friend of mine who is now in WA, has implemented a simple approach to his retail business. Now this is certainly not a new concept, but one I think many retailers, especially the smaller ones have moved away from. Seems everyone is focused on price and expects every customer that walks in is just "shopping for the best price" or looking at what they need and headed home to buy online. This in itself creates a psychological barrier between staff member and customer. The staff member already has a negative view of the outcome with the person in front of them who has taken time out of their day to visit, learn and possibly purchase. (I should mention only around 6% of people buy on price alone).

So what has my friend done to make such a drastic change to his turnover, and importantly, profit? Simply this .. He and his team are having fun with their customers, the experience when customers walk into his business is exceptional. Everything is interactive, his team are always showing customers the "really cool stuff" and thus generating excitement, and you guessed it SALES. With great margin!

The overwhelming focus for this business is the experience the customer has with every contact. People are all of a sudden no longer looking for the best price, but the solution, one that is fun and exciting!

When we change our attitudes towards the potential outcomes, the opportunities for growth are endless! And dare I say a lot more fun and profitable. You see, from my friend’s point of view, he and his team have made the decision, every person that walks into that business walks out saying WOW!

What is it that you and your team say or think about your customers and clients, what are your attitudes towards those who enter your premises? Are you excited about what your business has to offer, the possibilities and the long term relationships you and your team can develop?
