Improve Sales by Developing Your Relationships

Research from Stanford University has shown that 87% of sales success is based on people knowledge and connecting and 13% on product and service knowledge. Know your customers and connect with them.

Below are 11 simple tips you can apply right now. It’s more than just a business principle – developing quality relationships is vital in every area of life. In fact when this list was shared with a sales audience recently, one person immediately stated that this list would work with their spouse as well.

  1. SHOW RESPECT for the other person when they are talking.
  2. FOLLOW-THROUGH on what you say you will do.
  3. COMPLIMENT the ideas and recommendations shared by the other person.
  4. BE TRANSPARENT - share with the other person information about yourself.
  5. HELP THE OTHER PERSON achieve their goals and objectives.
  6. BE OPEN AND HONEST.
  7. START EACH CONVERSATION by referencing something from a previous meeting or relevant situation.
  8. BE ACCOUNTABLE - allow the other person to hold you accountable.
  9. ACCEPT REPONSIBILITY.
  10. KEEP CONFIDENCES - never share with another person something shared in confidence with you.
  11. YOUR BODY LANGUAGE must match what you are saying.

This list seems like common sense, however none of us do them all well. Which are you going to action today?
