5 Elements Your Top Team Members Must Have

Who is in your Inner Circle? Mother Teresa said, “You can do what I cannot do. I can do what you cannot do. Together we can do great things.” This is what happens when we have the right people in our Inner Circle. The Inner Circle consists of key players who bring one of the following five things to your business.

  1. They have high level influence with others. Because of their influence they can do things you or I cannot. Think Lawyers, who can bring legal expertise and solve issues of law. Think Accountants who can structure the business correctly. Think Marketing Specialists who can build an ace marketing plan.
  2. Are they strategic to the business? If so they need to be in the right position and have full buy in with the direction of the business and its leader.
  3. Have they a complimentary gift? Are they a person who is complimentary in their skill set or personality? Think gifted assistant. Think shop floor or manufacturing manager.
  4. How much value do they add to the leader and the business? Some people suck time and energy, others are free-loaders or shirt-tail surfers, while others build and bring incredible benefit. Only those who add benefit should be in the Inner Circle of our businesses.
  5. Do they lift others or bring them down? If the team chemistry is giving off a nasty vibe, identify the culprit and give them the flick. The Inner Circle members need to be mature emotionally so they are contributing to a highly creative and productive team environment.

The right team can ensure your dream sings. Hence we must:

Identify
Cultivate
Recruit

Spend extra time with ‘potential’ Inner Circle members developing them. They might not be ready yet but in time, they could be brilliant.

Test potential Inner Circle members out by giving them extra responsibility and place higher expectations on them to check out their stamina and endurance. It will also show any cracks in the character which, handled with care and belief, can be addressed and rectified. People who respond under these circumstances could be top notch future Inner Circle members.
