Dear
Friends,
Here is another extract from
our 1st book, The Pillars of
Business Success.
The first 90 days is the
most important time to get
immediate traction in your
business.
Sometimes we plan for the
future, why not plan for the
present, and get your
business moving in the right
direction.

The First 90 Days
After months of solid campaigning to win
the support of the voters across the country, the newly elected Prime
Minister would be entitled to some well deserved rest. The endless
nights of dinners trying to woo more voters and raise more campaign
donations, waiting at airports before flying off to all ends of the
country, and rising early in the morning to give interviews on talk back
radio; would be enough to exhaust any human being. But there is no rest
for this newly elected prime minister. The people have placed their
trust, that this new leader will provide immediate results.
So the next morning, the tired Prime
Minister, drags himself out of bed, and goes straight to the office. He
sits there and looks upon the mountain, upon mountains of campaign
promises, each when implemented will cost the taxpayer hundreds of
millions of dollars. The new Prime Minister looks at the momentous task
ahead of his government. “Did we promise too much? What happens if we
cannot deliver? Where do I start?” he asks himself, whilst flicking the
pages of the education policy up and down, over and over again. Then the
Prime Minister walks to the whiteboard, and rubs off the notes that were
left there, and writes:
Education
Health
Environment
Security
This was the platform that got his party
elected into government. Democracy had decided hat these were the future
goals of the nation. For the next 3 years the government has to deliver
on these promises, or the people will speak out at the ballot. The prime
minister looks at the first platform – education. He opens the policy
document, and starts to write down the main objectives of the policy. He
then rocks back in his chair, reflects for a moment, and starts circle 2
of the objectives that can be achieved in the first 90 days.
That week the new prime minister selects
his cabinet, and in the first cabinet meeting he rewrites the 4 main
platforms that the party got elected on:
Education
Health
Environment
Security
He then discusses with the cabinet the
objectives and steps that are to be achieved in the first 90 days. “This
government needs to show that we have listened to their concerns and
that we will deliver on our promises”. The Prime Minister then assigns
each cabinet minister an action and an expected completion date.
The 90 Day Action Plan
What will you do in the first 90 days?
The first 90 days after casting out the
direction off the business is crucial in ensuring that your business
gains immediate momentum and some quick wins. Sometimes we overestimate
what we will achieve in the long term and underestimate the short term.
This means that whilst it is important to have a long-term view of
business sustainability, it means nothing in the end, if no result is
gained in the short term. In your first year, you cannot achieve all the
results on day 364.
