Take the First Step... to Get Your Life Back!

One of the most common mistakes made in business is so simple it’s no wonder that nearly every small to medium size business makes it.

A lot of businesses have been designed to take from people. The business takes your time, life, money and in a lot of cases, the business takes the joy out of living. If this is not your business then you are blessed and you need to make sure you focus on developing your business further and take advantage of the opportunities available to you.

In reality, the common mistake is that the business has not been designed at all. The business has been allowed to run its own course and that course is way off track.

A Job for Life

If you are like most business owners, you started with an idea. That idea grew into what has become your business and in the creation of your business you have probably created yourself a job. A job for life, or worse still, a life sentence where you are committed to your business for the term of its natural life. But there is something far more powerful and rewarding available to you if you really want it!

A Business that Provides for You

Ultimately your business should provide you with an abundance of life and happiness. Like everything, there will be challenges along the way, but for the most part your business will give to you the lifestyle and enjoyment you are after. It will give to you and your family and provide a future income for generations to come… or at least it should.

Plan and Develop Your Business

Many businesses are basically an accident in the way they were set up and as such there was no purpose built into the business so it underperforms from day one. By underperforming I simply mean that it does not provide you with the freedom it truly should.

There are some very basic things you can do to regain control over your business and work on the ongoing development of building a passive income for you and your family.

  1. Develop an exciting and inspiring vision for you and what you want your business to provide.
  2. Develop a powerful and exciting vision for your business so it can become greater than you are and excite others to join you.
  3. Allocate time percentages to each functional area of the business and start the process of systemising the lowest level technical activities of the business so that you can spend your time on the management and ownership functions.
  4. Construct a business plan for the next two years and follow the strategies contained within the plan.
  5. Hire an external adviser to support you in the development of you and your business.
  6. Set aside time each month so you can proactively work on the development of your business that is outside the normal scope of your work. This could be one full day each month (only 12 days per year).
  7. Read books, listen to audio business books, view business videos, attend workshops and seminars to increase your business knowledge.
  8. Maintain focus on changing your current status so you can free yourself. Remember, it will not happen by itself!

Sometimes, to accomplish a project like this, all you need to do is take one step forward. To get started, you need to sit down and make a list of all the steps required to eventually complete the project.

Then, just start and complete one item (the most important item) on the list, and then one more, and then one more, and so on. You will be amazed at how quickly you will complete the entire project… and regain the lifestyle you desire and deserve.
